What English immersion is
English immersion means children don’t study English as a subject — they do play, daily life, and activities in English and pick it up naturally by being immersed in the language. Instead of memorizing words, they acquire language through the same process as their mother tongue.
How it differs from a weekly lesson
A weekly English class is “time to study English”; immersion is “a whole day spent in English.” The sheer difference in exposure creates real differences:
- Input: minutes per week → hours per day. The total exposure is on another level.
- Purpose: for a test → for play and interaction. It becomes “usable English.”
- How it sticks: memorization → natural acquisition, through the ears and mouth.
Benefits of starting in early childhood
- An “ear for English”: distinguishing sounds not in the mother tongue is easiest in early childhood.
- Usable English: the foundation to “think in one language and express in another.”
- No resistance to English: growing up with English as normal, children speak without hesitation.

How to choose an immersion preschool
- Share of the day in English.
- Teachers: a multinational team including native English speakers.
- Mother-tongue education: time and design for the child’s first language.
- Small groups: enough attention for each child.
- Inquiry & non-cognitive skills: curiosity and thinking, not just English.
- Visibility: contact books or live cameras to share the day.
